In the early fall, the crisp air reminds me of eating outside in Florida after the sun goes down and the night air is a perfect 70 degrees. I love to sit outside on their patio and watch all the traffic go by that’s heading downtown. If you want somewhere that is going to leave you full and satisfied, which who doesn’t, it’s a perfect spot for lunch. Meaning “The Vale of Paradise,” it is the home of Valparaiso University and Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn kingdom, neighbor to the towns on the shores of Lake Michigan, and located a short drive from the great city of Chicago. It’s one of my favorite things, especially in the fall. While I love long drives, I have to say the short trip from my college in West Lafayette to my hometown in northern Indiana makes me giddy. There is a pretzel mania going on in this contry and it is not complimenting the pretzels. This restaurant's avant garde stand, is not to serve bread with meals. The pretzel bites served with a cheese and sweet and sour sauce layed on top of mixed green leaves was not good. Even the best looking person looks like they are auditioning for a Dracula play. We all liked the wall filled with books on shelves. There is a sense of discovery when you meander through an office building hallway to find the entrance to this restaurant but unfortunately the climax is thin. ![]()
